Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a general designation of homopolymers of acrylamide or copolymerized with other monomers. It is one of the most widely used water-soluble polymers. Because the structural unit of polyacrylamide contains amide group, it is easy to form hydrogen bond, which makes it have good water solubility and high chemical activity. It is easy to obtain a variety of modifiers with branch chain or network structure by grafting or cross-linking. It is widely used in oil exploitation, water treatment, textile, paper making, mineral processing, medicine, agriculture and other industries, and it is called "one hundred industry auxiliaries".

The use of polyacrylamide shall follow the following principles:
1. Granular polyacrylamide flocculant can not be directly added to sewage. Before use, it must be dissolved in water and treated with its aqueous solution.
2. The water for dissolving granular polymer should be clean (such as tap water), not sewage. Normal temperature water is OK, do not need heating commonly. When the water temperature is lower than 5 ºC, the dissolution is very slow. When the water temperature is increased, the dissolution rate is accelerated, but the polymer degradation will be accelerated above 40 ºC, which will affect the use effect. General tap water is suitable for the preparation of polymer solutions. Water with strong acid, strong alkali and high salt content is not suitable for preparation.
3. The concentration of polymer solution is recommended to be 0.1% - 0.3%, that is to say, 1g-3g polymer powder is added to 1 liter of water.
