Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymers polymer with the chemical formula (C3H5NO) n. It is a hard glassy solid at room temperature, and its products include glue, latex and white powder, translucent beads and flakes. Good thermal stability. It can be dissolved in water in any proportion, and the aqueous solution is a uniform and transparent liquid. After long-term storage, the viscosity of the solution will decrease due to the slow degradation of the polymer, especially when the storage and transportation conditions are poor. As a lubricant, suspending agent, clay stabilizer, oil displacement agent, fluid loss reducer and thickener, polyacrylamide has been widely used in drilling, acidizing, fracturing, water plugging, cementing, secondary oil recovery and tertiary oil recovery.

The use of polyacrylamide should follow the following principles:
1. Granular polyacrylamide flocculant cannot be directly added into sewage. Before use, it must be dissolved in water and treated with its aqueous solution.
2. The water in which the granular polymer is dissolved should be clean (such as tap water) and not sewage. Normal temperature water is enough, and generally no heating is needed. When the water temperature is lower than 5ºC, it dissolves slowly. With the increase of water temperature, the dissolution rate will be accelerated, but above 40ºC, the degradation of polymer will be accelerated, which will affect the use effect. Generally, tap water is suitable for preparing polymer solution. Strong acid, strong alkali and high salt water are not suitable for preparation.
3. The concentration of polymer solution is suggested to be 0.1%-0.3%, that is, 1g-3g polymer powder is added to 1 liter of water.Water treatment includes raw water treatment, sewage treatment and industrial water treatment. Used in combination with activated carbon in raw water treatment, it can be used for coagulation and clarification of suspended particles in domestic water. Using organic flocculant acrylamide instead of inorganic flocculant can improve the water purification capacity by more than 20% even if the settling tank is not reformed. In sewage treatment, polyacrylamide can increase the utilization rate of water reuse cycle and can also be used for sludge dehydration; Used as an important formula medicament in industrial water treatment.
